From unfamiliar tooling to a self-sufficient, fully migrated MFT team

Summary

aiDataWorks supported a customer migrating from Informatica Cleo to Informatica MFT who had no prior experience with the tool or the migration process and needed help standing up the MFT Gateway. The team built a custom SQL/DT-based assessment to inventory Hosts and Mailboxes across the customer's environments, validated migration prerequisites, and produced estimates before migrating an initial set of trading partners into Informatica MFT. Alongside the migration, aiDataWorks trained the customer's developers on the new platform and its integration with DX, and helped configure an additional partner. The engagement left the customer self-sufficient, with a fully reusable set of assessment and migration assets they can apply to future environments without further outside help.

The challenge

  • New to Informatica MFT. The customer had no prior experience with the platform and was unsure how to make optimal use of its capabilities.
  • Unfamiliar with the migration path. Coming from Informatica Cleo, the team did not know how migration to MFT actually worked or how to get started.
  • No in-house Gateway expertise. Standing up and configuring the MFT Gateway required hands-on guidance the customer's team did not yet have.

The solution

How we built it

Assessment & migration planning

  • Built a custom assessment using SQL queries and DT (data transformation) code to inventory Hosts and Mailboxes across the customer's environments.
  • Verified and demonstrated the migration prerequisites needed before any Cleo-to-MFT cutover could begin.
  • Produced migration estimates directly from the assessment findings to inform planning.

Partner migration & MFT Gateway setup

  • Assisted in migrating an initial set of trading Partners and configuring them in Informatica MFT.
  • Provided hands-on support standing up and configuring the MFT Gateway.
  • Worked with the customer's team to set up an additional new partner in Informatica MFT.

Enablement & knowledge transfer

  • Trained the customer's developers on the Informatica MFT environment and its integration with DX.
  • Handed over the assessment SQL scripts and DT code as fully reusable assets for future environment migrations.
  • Left the customer's team able to independently perform migration, testing, and setup going forward.
